European HSE Management Forum will bring senior decision-makers and business leaders from Europe, to share experiences, discover new ideas, and discuss the hottest topics in health and safety management. The event is scheduled to take place from 28th-29th September 2017 at the Crowne Plaza Berlin.
Industrial Health & Safety Management refers to organized efforts and procedures for identifying workplace hazards and reducing accidents and exposure to harmful situations and substances. It also includes training of personnel in accident prevention, accident response, emergency preparedness, and use of protective clothing and equipment.
This year Clive Johnson the Global Head of Health & Safety of Landsec will be one of the key speakers at the European HSE Management Forum and below is a short interview with him on his conference topic and his take on current HSE industry issues and the trends.
- Can you give an overview of your conference presentation?
Land Securities (Landsec) is the largest property company in the UK. We want to demonstrate that we are not only an employer of choice but how we influence and engage. As an informed and intelligent Developer, Landlord and Client we create an open and honest culture with our customers both internal and external by empowering them, creating trust and creating the right, environment for them to thrive across a very broad portfolio. Visible leadership is key to our success and this is demonstrated from our board room right throughout the business, walking the talk.
- What are the major threats and issues currently faced by the HSE industry?
Especially being in the construction industry, an ageing workforce with no real indication that we are getting new entrants into our industry is a major issue. There is a need to change the perception of our industry. We also don’t have enough women in our industry and need to get the gender balance right. Physical and Cyber issues are considered to be major issues in terms of security. Although we are getting better at safety we have plateaued over the recent years. So we need to do something different and continue to raise the profile of health giving it equal billing.
- What do you see as the main industry trend for next year?
Driving the health agenda particularly around Mental Health is the main industry trend that must be followed. We must be more caring for our workforce as we only have one workforce. Changing the perception of Health & Safety is vital, whilst removing its stigma and be seen as an enabler, but not a blocker.
Clive Johnson will further discuss the importance of maintaining the Health & Wellbeing – Including Mental Health in an organization and the importance creating the right Environment for people to thrive at the European HSE Management Forum. Joining us in Berlin for the European HSE Management Forum on 28-29 September will help professionals from HSE industry to gain greater insight into industry trends . We look forward to see many HSE professionals who aspire to reach HSE Operational Excellence and who wish to know more about HSE in the era of BREXIT.
